Meta Descriptions: The CTR Lever Nobody A/B Tests
Meta descriptions don't rank pages — they sell the click. Under 50 characters and you waste the snippet; over 165 and it truncates right where your call-to-action starts.
How to fix it
- Write 50-165 characters including a verb and a payoff.
- Include the primary keyword: Google bolds matches in the snippet.
- End with a reason to click, not a period: "Compare the top 6 before you buy".
- Never duplicate across pages — each page earns its own pitch.
